Deion Sanders witnessed what he thought would never happen in Colorado defeat

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders admitted that he never expected four receivers to succumb to injury against Kansas State as he deemed the situation "ridiculous" .

The Buffaloes fell to a 31-28 defeat at Folsom Field as a capacity crowd witnessed the home team throw away the lead with just three minutes remaining. The hosts sacrificed a four-point lead, with the Wildcats seizing victory from the jaws of defeat via a 50-yard touchdown from Jayce Brown.

After the frustration of a defeat in such dramatic circumstances, coach Sanders also had to contend with the loss of two-way ace Travis Hunter to injury . He had to leave the field after picking up a knock to his right shoulder, while Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr. also picked up injuries.

Following the clash, Sanders was coy on the condition of that stricken quartet, apart from acknowledging that Miller had left in a walking boot. He confirmed: "I haven't gotten an update on those young men. Hopefully they can get back at it, but we're not going to rush them. Their safety and their health is much more important than this game."

Explaining how those injuries affected his team's performance, "Prime Time" told The Coloradoan: "We had opportunities at the end of the game but we shouldn't have been in that situation whatsoever. Losing Travis, Jimmy and others ... took a lot out of us. I never thought four WRs would get hurt in one game. That's just ridiculous."

"Certainly, losing Travis and Jimmy and others was tremendous because they’re a vital part of our team, vital part of our identity; they’re a vital part of who we are.

"So that took a blow… That look a lot out of us. But other guys had the opportunity to step up and they did. So I’m proud of them," the former NFL star added. "We didn’t tackle well today, whatsoever. We didn’t get to the ball as a unit today, whatsoever. We had some busts and a few things.

Giving his verdict on the Buffaloes ' showing, he added: "I’m telling you, I hear the calls, and (defensive coordinator Robert Livingston) called a pretty darn good game. He called a really good game, and we just got to execute the calls."

He added: "Sometimes when you lose in life, you get your butt kicked and you've just got to take. Sometimes you lose, you say, ‘Dang, we should’ve won that. We should've had that'. That was one of those types of games. That's not taking anything away from our opponents because they played their butts off."

Shedeur Sanders, who threw for 388 yards and three touchdowns with one interception on the night, said of his own outing: "It was aight. There was definitely some sacks I shouldn’t have took, some reads that I gotta make. I’ll watch the film and see where I can improve because I don’t think anyone ever plays a perfect game and I didn’t play a perfect game."
