Aaron Rodgers has four-word message for Josh Allen after New York Jets defeat

New York Jets superstar Aaron Rodgers shared a warm exchange with Buffalo Bills rival Josh Allen as he expressed his "love" for his fellow quarterback.

The "Monday Night Football" clash came in the wake of Robert Saleh's dismissal from his post as Jets head coach but the hosts were unable to rally as they fell to a 23-20 loss. The AFC East contest also saw two of the NFL's best quarterback talents do battle as they showed their respect for each other following the game.

On the night, Rodgers was on hand with two touchdowns and 294 yards, while Allen finished proceedings with two touchdowns and 215 yards. The pair looked suitably impressed what they had witnessed from one another too - as they hugged on the field following a compelling outing at MetLife Stadium.

Shaking hands, Allen told his older contemporary that he "loves" him, before his four-time NFL MVP peer returned the compliment in a heartwarming moment. Fans heralded the sportsmanship shown by the pair on social media too, with one fan saying that Rogers was "passing the torch" to the Bills QB.

A second fan chimed in, saying: "Both Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers played great tonight. The legendary QB battle did not disappoint," while one enthusiast could not help by make a joke at the Jets' expense, saying: "What’s the difference between 17 and 8. The QB who won at MetLife last night."

In addition, a third fan said: "Josh Allen is clear cut MVP through 6," before another said: "Josh Allen just a better player than Aaron Rodgers at this point of their careers," as a fifth added: "Josh Allen is a better quarterback than Aaron Rodgers at this stage of their careers!!"

Reflecting on the game itself following a fourth loss so far this season, Rodgers was all too aware that his team has started the campaign in listless fashion. He said: "We need to ... need to get going, this was a golden opportunity. Some games you win in the NFL and some games you give away. This was a giveaway.

"I mean, we were terrible in the red zone [1 of 4], missed two field goals, didn't convert on a, you know, [late] two-minute drive. We had plenty of chances, had the momentum, had good drives, moved the ball up and down the field [393 total yards, 6.7 a play]. So disappointing."

The veteran QB added: "You can go back to each of those games and look at little details, and then I got my own criticism to share as well," Rodgers said. "But a lot of opportunities, if you just ... we all just do the little things."
