Davante Adams confirms first New York Jets game after late-night Aaron Rodgers text

Davante Adams revealed he will make his New York Jets debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers following his high-profile trade from the Las Vegas Raiders .

Adams had been linked with a trade away from Las Vegas for some time, with speculation stepping up after he suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the season. On Tuesday, the Jets acquired the All-Pro in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-rounder.

After entering the 2024 season amid immense expectations, the Jets slipped to 2-4 following a Monday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills . The Jets fell 23-20 at home to their AFC East rivals , despite Rodgers completing 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns, along with a late interception.

Rodgers insisted the interception was the fault of receiver Mike Williams , and the error coupled with a crucial defeat to a division rival may have hastened the Jets’ pursuit of Adams . The 30-year-old wide receiver made a shock appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” alongside Rodgers, who stunned McAfee and his crew by slowly revealing his new teammate standing behind him.

“What's up fellas?” he said after McAfee congratulated him on the move to New York. Adams, who has tallied 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown across three games for the Raiders, then addressed his health after dealing with a hamstring issue.

“I’m feeling great,” Adams added. “I've been working with the staff over in Vegas the whole time, and they got me back right. So fortunately I'll be able to roll.”

Adams also suggested he and Rodgers intend to “pick up where we left off”, starting against the Steelers in Week 7. From 2014 to 2021, the duo combined for 615 receptions, 7,529 yards, and 68 touchdowns.

Rodgers told McAfee he found out about the trade late last night, saying: “Obviously really excited - love ‘Tae, he’s a phenomenal player and a dear friend. It was a crappy day. Yesterday obviously we had a real good chance to get to 3-3 and win a home game. Kinda gave that one away.

“[I] was pissed, driving home through traffic, had a couple messages, just not in the mood to talk to anybody. Got home, ‘Tae had called me and texted me, so I called him back so about… 12:30, 12:45 last night I heard the news.”

Adams is a three-time All-Pro and two-time receiving touchdowns leader, and he represents one of the best offensive weapons in football. Amid trade links to the New Orleans Saints , Bills, and Steelers, the Jets swooped and Adams joins the likes of Garrett Wilson , Allen Lazard, and Williams in the receiver room.

Adams, Rodgers, and the 2-4 Jets are next in action against the 4-2 Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 20.
