Fortnite pulls plug on Rocket Racing and announces there will be no further themed updates

It appears that the addition of official tracks to Rocket Racing , the Rocket League spinoff that is accessible within Fortnite , is coming to an end.

Along with update v31.40, Epic Games announced the news, emphasizing "tracks from creators" and bidding "goodbye to Inferno Island and themed updates ." New quests, equipment, and ranked periods will still be added to the game mode, but official tracks and seasonal updates seem to be discontinued.

Many gamers are upset over the removal of extra races and themes, so it's safe to conclude that the community hasn't taken this well. The same studio that created Rocket League, Psyonix, is the developer of Rocket Racing, a racing game that is only available on Fortnite.

After two seasons and the addition of numerous official races, the game has been accessible within the battle royale for less than a year. However, the most recent patch suggests that Psyonix will no longer be adding new official tunes to the game and signals the end of seasonal-themed updates.

“v31.40 brings the theme back to the starting line as we say goodbye to Inferno Island and themed updates,” the Epic Games and Psyonix statement reads. “Future updates will be taking new roads with refreshed ranked periods, renewed quests, and additional car items you can take to the track!"

“New tracks from creators are releasing every day so racers always have a different place to drift, flip, and fly. There’s no end to the starting lines you can discover! Or, if you’re curious about UEFN, to the ones you can create.”

Naturally, players are seeing this as the end of official tracks and fresh seasons. With the addition of seven courses just months ago in update v30.30, the racing mode has seen a constant flow of new tracks since beginning. Update v.31.40, on the other hand, includes no new official races for players and bids farewell to themed releases.

Nevertheless, the terminology used here is quite difficult to understand. New official races and themes are not mentioned; instead, the emphasis is on quests, rated challenges, and automobile cosmetics. Therefore, even though it appears that Rocket Racing's major upgrades are forever done, something might be introduced in the future.

Rocket Racing hasn't been doing well for a while for an official mode created by Epic Games. Fortnite.gg reports that there were over 600,000 concurrents at launch, but that number swiftly fell to less than 100,000. Since then, Rocket Racing's average player count has had difficulty surpassing 5,000 active players.

After Epic Games purchased Rocket Racing and Rocket League creator Psyonix in 2019, the mobile game Rocket League Sideswipe and Fortnite mode were released. December 2023 saw the release of Rocket Racing.
