5 kickers New York Jets could target after Greg Zuerlein costs them second game

The New York Jets could be in the market for a new kicker after Greg Zuerlein struggled against the Buffalo Bills .

On Monday Night Football, the Jets fell 23-20 at home to the Bills. Rodgers completed 23 of 35 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns, along with a late interception that sealed the defeat - but it was kicker Zuerlein who perhaps cost the Jets the game .

Zuerlein missed a pair of short-field goals as the Jets came up short. The 36-year-old, who has been the team’s kicker for over two years, has now cost the team two potential victories in six games this season.

“I’m just not kicking the ball well,” Zuerlein told reporters after the game. “I wouldn't say the conditions played into it I'm just not kicking the ball the proper way and the results have shown for themselves. Not just this game but previous games as well. These guys deserve better and I can do better.”

Back in 2022, Zuerlein was 30-for-37 on field goals in his first season with the Jets - 81.1 percent. Last season, he was 35-for-38, which is 92.1 percent. However, he’s currently 6-for-10 for 60 percent.

The Jets may decide enough is enough, and move for a different kicker. But who is available?

    Anders Carlson (49ers practice squad)

Anders Carlson was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers . Last season, Carlson made 27 of 33 kicks with Green Bay but missed 50 percent of his attempts from the 40 to 49-yard range and made three of his five 50+ yard attempts. He also missed five of his 39 extra-point attempts.

    Rodrigo Blankenship (Free agent)

Nicknamed “Hot Rod”, Rodrigo Blankenship impressed as a rookie with the Indianapolis Colts but was cut after the opening game of his third season as misses crept into his game. The 27-year-old is desperately looking for work, posting videos of his workouts on TikTok as he tries an unconventional method of getting attention from coaches.

    Cade York (Free agent)

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, York has bounced around a few teams since arriving in the league. Ahead of the 2024 season, York was traded to the Washington Commanders for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but was cut after missing two field goals in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

    Charlie Smyth (Saints practice squad)

During preseason, Charlie Smyth kicked a 37-yard field goal in the final seconds to give the New Orleans Saints the victory over the Arizona Cardinals . However, that was the Irishman’s only attempt of preseason as he picked up a groin injury in training camp before Blake Grupe won the starting job.

    Mason Crosby (Free agent)

Aaron Rodgers , Davante Adams , Allen Lazard… and Mason Crosby? The 40-year-old kicker is a free agent after leaving the New York Giants and could link back up with his Super Bowl -winning teammate Rodgers as the Jets kicking struggles continue. In 2023, Crosby kicked three field goals from five attempts.
