Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's meticulously planned visit to a low-income school in New York in 2021 involved the couple going to great lengths to ensure the perfect "aesthetic" for their Netflix documentary filming. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had an extensive list of peculiar requests to guarantee a seamless visit, as revealed by evidence obtained by the Daily Mail through a FOI request.

One conversation saw the couple's representatives suggesting they bring cushions and a new carpet to a school in a low-income area of the city to better suit Meghan's taste. The visit occurred at a public school in one of New York City's low-income areas in September 2021, just 18 months after the couple resigned from Royal duties in 2020.

Emails viewed by the publication also revealed that Archewell staff had input on which school the couple visited and made multiple edits to the press release to make the visit appear "more substantial". Records also showed that Archwell staff insisted on signed consent forms to prevent any negative comments from being publicly made, both post-visit and in the future, reports the Express .

The consent forms also prohibited teachers and students from discussing the project at all.

On the second day of their trip, Meghan and Harry paid a visit to P. S, 123 in Harlem - an inner-city school where 95% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price meals due to their low-income family backgrounds. It was here that Meghan read her book 'The Bench' at PS 123 Mahalia Jackson school.

Harry reportedly sat cross-legged among the class of students listening to his wife read. The New York trip was reportedly intended to portray them as global leaders, with the couple also stopping by the United Nations to discuss vaccine equity.

Press coverage for the visit was tightly controlled, with some British tabloids barred from attending, but high-end glossy magazines like Vogue were allowed. The couple's itinerary also included a speaking engagement at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park.

Correspondence suggests that planning for the trip began six months earlier in April 2021, led by former New York City Department of Education employee Toya Holness. The September 2021 New York trip saw a camera crew following Harry and Meghan for a series of public outings filmed for their six-part Netflix documentary.

The series, titled 'Harry and Meghan', which chronicled the couple's life after stepping down as senior royals, sparked further controversy in their ongoing feud with the Firm when it aired in December 2022.

Meghan drew criticism during the visit for her high-end outfit - a $6,000 Loro Piana cashmere coat and $1,600 trousers.

The Sussexs should have bought that themselves and made a donation to the school. Who cares what they wore to the school? A donation should have been made.
