Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow humbled by NFL chiefs after telling schedule change

The NFL has decided to swap Sunday's Philadelphia Eagles game against the Cincinnati Bengals to accommodate a rookie showdown between Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels.

The Chicago Bears vs. the Washington Commanders was originally scheduled for 1 pm ET this Sunday but after both of the rookie quarterback's star-studded starts to life in the NFL, they've been promoted to a later TV slot, replacing Bengals ace Joe Burrow 's trip to Jalen Hurts ' Eagles.

Williams vs. Daniels will now be on at 4.25 pm ET, while the Hurts and Burrow will throw down in the earlier slot. Both of the rookies have got their respective franchises off to winning starts in 2024, following Williams' first-overall selection by the Bears, and Daniels' second-overall pick to the Commanders.

Washington sits top of the NFC East with a 4-2 record, ahead of the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Giants. Daniels has 1,404 passing yards for six touchdowns. He also has two rushing touchdowns of his own and earned praise from reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson following last weekend's defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.

Meanwhile, Williams has gone 4-2 with Chicago and has nine touchdowns for 1,317 passing yards. He hasn't scored a rushing touchdown of his own but he has proven that he can get his team up the field with his feet. In Sunday's London win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Williams averaged 14 yards per carry in four attempts.

NFL fans appear pleased with the NFL's decision. "Demoting Burrow and Hurts for Williams and Daniels. What a time," one said. "Imagine telling someone in week 1 these two games would swap," a second tweeted.

"Both of those teams are better so it makes sense. More entertaining matchup as any Eagles game is a snooze fest," a third added. A fourth said: "THE CALEB WILLIAMS SHOW."

The mentality of both Williams and Daniels cannot be understated either. Despite their fast transition into the NFL from college football, their eyes remain firm on ironing out any creases in their game.

"There were a few things going on throughout the game that I've got to be better at, but the progress we've had is going to keep growing," Williams said, after beating the Jags at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"We have great leaders and great personalities in this team. A bunch of guys contributed throughout the whole game, and then the offensive line to be able to do what they do, I'll always have love for the big guys and how they protect us. We wouldn't have this type of game without them."
