Liam Payne and Cheryl, a member of Girls Aloud, had a strong relationship that lasted until shortly after the birth of their son, Bear. The couple announced their split in 2018, following Bear's arrival in 2017, and over time, they both shared more about what led to the breakdown of their relationship.

Cheryl first met Liam in 2008 when he was a 14 year old contestant on The X Factor, where she was a judge. They crossed paths again in 2015 when he returned to perform with One Direction , and their romance began.

Liam, 31, had always wanted to be a father and was eager to settle down with Cheryl. However, after One Direction disbanded, Liam was hesitant to pursue a solo career, but Cheryl, 40, encouraged him to give it a try.

Unfortunately, this marked the beginning of the end of their relationship. Liam even suggested that the arrival of Bear "ruined" their relationship, but for "all the right reasons." Tragically, news of Liam's passing has emerged, as the former One Direction star fell from the third floor of a hotel while vacationing in Buenos Aires with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Liam rose to fame in 2011 after appearing on The X Factor, where judge Simon Cowell formed a band with him, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan, reports the Mirror .

Reports indicate that Liam tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina's capital. Emergency services, including police, firefighters and ambulances, were spotted outside the hotel following the incident.

Authorities were reportedly alerted to a man behaving aggressively at the hotel, possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A body was discovered in the hotel's internal patio.

The hotel manager is said to have called the police. It's believed that Liam fell approximately 13 or 14 meters, sustaining "very serious injuries incompatible with life."

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel. At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation."

The musician, who was vacationing in Argentina, had been sharing his recent adventures with fans on TikTok and Snapchat alongside girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

However, rumors about him and a close friend have been circulating. Over the past few months, Payne had been globetrotting while also hinting at new music for his fans.

Here, we reflect on Liam's relationship with Cheryl.

The bond between the former flames remains strong, with both Cheryl and Liam wishing each other well. Cheryl was reportedly filled with concern for her ex when he had to be hospitalized, leading to the cancellation of his tour due to a severe kidney infection.

This incident has Cheryl particularly anxious, especially after a previous hospital scare last year. A source close to the Girls Aloud singer shared, "Cheryl is really worried about Liam. As soon as she heard he was in hospital, she feared the worst."

The source added, "She's really protective of him and is worried no one is actually looking out for him."

According to Heat magazine, Cheryl sees his recent hospitalization as a warning sign, knowing all too well the pressures of the industry to prioritize profit over artists' health.

Co-parenting their son Bear, the two live nearby to ensure both are involved in his life. Liam treasures the moments he spends with Bear and has nothing but praise for Cheryl's parenting, which he expressed on Logan Paul's podcast Impulsive: "She is the best mum in the world. I couldn't ask for someone better," he said.

Liam also mentioned, "I get to take my son to school one or two times a week and it's the best thing. The relationship we have now as friends has only grown more."

He had candidly discussed the dynamics of his post-breakup relationship with ex Cheryl, emphasizing her dedication to their son Bear. "We broke up for a reason and now she gives me full autonomy of my life and to do what I do and I know he's [Bear's] taken care of. He is all she cares about and I couldn't ask for more. They live like three minutes from my house. I always glue myself to where he is. My life now is his. My money is his. He's a lovely, lovely boy. We've been blessed."

Following their split, Liam made some harsh remarks hinting that their son Bear played a role in their separation.

In a conversation with Logan Paul, he reflected on the end of his two-year relationship with Cheryl, saying: "To be honest with you, it ruined a relationship at that point – but for all the right reasons."

He shared the frightening experience of Bear's birth when Cheryl suffered a significant hemorrhage. This left Cheryl needing rest and a young Liam to look after their newborn.

"It was me and a baby in the room and I had to take care of it. It was fun," he recounted.

Liam had previously spoken publicly about his disagreements with Cheryl during their relationship. In one instance, he made a lighthearted joke about her accent on the Capital Breakfast show, saying: "I'm a West Brom fan, but that's not the problem. Sometimes it is! Well, this is the thing, I mean Cheryl's not really that massively into football but she likes to bring up where they're from when this happens, isn't it, it's like 'oh well I'm from here so I'm gonna do this', erm, that was a great Geordie accent... [laughs]. That is what she sounds like in the morning! "It's like battle of the grandads at the minute, and he's going to have a tough little choice on his hands at some point because you're going to have to disappoint some grandparents. Or he'll just have to go 'you know what, forget this, I like ice hockey'. Pick a different sport."

In another incident, just a month before their split, Liam embarrassed Cheryl during a live phone chat with BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw, revealing that she was in the bathroom and even asking her about her toilet habits.

"She's actually in the toilet, this is hilarious," he told Grimmy, despite the host's pleas to spare her the embarrassment. "Oh she's coming out now, one second. Let's find out what's going on. First off, was it a number one or two? " he laughed.

"Erm, she says 'stop it'. She's going to kill me after this phone call, this could be the last thing you ever-" Cheryl then snatched the phone from him and spoke directly to Grimmy, jokingly suggesting that the radio host should become part of her crew. The singer was reportedly livid with Liam following his candid interview where he admitted they were experiencing relationship "struggles" – this bombshell dropped just weeks after rumors of their potential split surfaced.
