Kansas City Chiefs owner makes feelings clear on Harrison Butker's political stance

Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has admitted that he is not "at all concerned" about Harrison Butker's beliefs after the kicker formed a political action committee.

The NFL star, who is a conservative Catholic, aims to encourage Christians to use their vote to back what the committee describes as "traditional values". He sparked controversy back in May with his speech at Benedictine College , where he made comments about women, abortion, and Pride Month.

However, the fallout from his remarks does not seem to have shaken Butler's ideology, as he announced yet another foray into politics on his social media this week. After setting up Upright PAC, the 29-year-old features on the committee's website alongside Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley.

The PAC's website has the following mission statement: "We're seeing our values under attack every day. In our schools, in the media, and even from our own government.

"But we have a chance to fight back and reclaim the traditional values that have made this country great. We are working to mobilize Christians across this country to make sure we protect these values at the ballot box.

Now, it appears that Chiefs chairman Hunt has defended Butker's right to express his political opinions as he encouraged his players to use their platforms to forward causes they believe in. He said: "One of the things I talk to the players every year about at training camp is using their platform to make a difference."

"We have players on both sides of the political spectrum, both sides of whatever controversial issue you want to bring up. I'm not at all concerned when our players use their platform to make a difference."

Still, Butker's views previously drew the ire of the NFL , with the league distancing itself from his remarks at Benedictine College. They said: "His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

Reinforcing his stance, the kicker later said: "I've just decided, 'You know what? There's things that I believe wholeheartedly that I think will make this world a better place,' and I'm going to preach that.

"If people don't agree, they don't agree, but I'm going to continue to say what I believe to be true and love everyone along the way." Meanwhile, teammate Patrick Mahomes is keeping his cards close to his chest on his political stance ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election, saying: "I don't want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate.

"My place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It's to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family."
