A security camera captured the disturbing moment a bus driver in Argentina was brutally stabbed twice in his abdomen region as he drove the bus, dying soon after.
The bloody incident transpired aboard bus number 101 driving along line 506 in the town of Glew. The attacker, Jesús de Ojeda Calipsto, 57, has since been arrested by authorities who revealed he is the husband of a woman who allegedly has a romantic past with the victim. The knifeman faces a count of aggravated homicide by treachery.
Driver Leonardo Sebastián Figueroa, 43, is seen steering the vehicle when the attacker, wearing a surgical mask, slowly approaches and initiates a conversation. The two exchange a few words before the orange jacket-wearing Calipsto pulls out a sharp object from a bag and stabs the driver twice in his right side.
He then dashes to the open door and hops out the moving vehicle. Figueroa expresses a look of horror and bewilderment as he holds his injured side and leaks blood from his mouth. He also closed the door and stopped the bus to view his bloodied hand. The entire attack was captured on an internal security camera.
Figueroa made it to the Cecilia Grierson Hospital alive but died soon after despite life-saving efforts and numerous surgical interventions. Authorities, going off of initial testimony, said they ruled out personal gain and robbery as motives for the bloody crime. A 30-year-old woman had reportedly visited the police station in Almirante Brown after the attack and told officers the perpetrator was her husband, according to LA NACION who spoke with law enforcement sources.
The attacker had reportedly learned of an affair his wife had with Figueroa, which was said to have happened a long time ago. Calipsto was apprehended by officers of the 7th Glew police station, who gathered witness accounts, just a few blocks from where he hopped off the bus.
