Bo Nix already knows how to deal with Broncos critics after ugly throw in Saints game

Bo Nix unleashed a throw that was uncatchable to both the offense and the defense - but his response says it all.

Early in the first quarter of the Denver Broncos’ “Thursday Night Football” matchup against New Orleans , Nix faced relatively light pressure from the Saints’ defense, giving him ample time to read the coverage and find his receivers. After holding onto the ball for five seconds, Nix double-pumped before actually throwing the ball.

Once he did, aimed at two open players: Tight end Lucas Krull and receiver Troy Franklin. However, Nix somehow put too much power and too little power in the throw as the ball sailed through the air and over the heads of the Saints’ defense.

Instead of landing in the arms of either Krull or Franklin, Nix’s throw flew just over the head of Krull and out of arms reach. The ball also was woefully short from Franklin, as all the wideout could do as he saw the throw was looking at the ball as it bounced harmlessly in front of him for the incomplete.

Almost immediately, fans on social media criticized the rookie quarterback for how poorly Nix threw the ball. “Bo Nix with three of the worst throws you’ll ever see all in a row, good stuff,” one fan sarcastically posted on X.

Another wrote: “Bo Nix throws such a bad ball you can’t intercept it! Savvy!” Fans generally shared the same sentiment after seeing Nix’s throw, as another said: “Bo Nix threw it to the only spot two open receivers couldn’t get to.”

“Again, for a guy with so much experience/61 college starts, the wasted pocket movement, skittish footwork from Bo Nix on non-quick game concepts continues to baffle,” another fan observed. And while Nix’s throw became the laughingstock on social media, the rookie already has displayed that he does not care what critics say.

After throwing an interception against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 13-6 loss, Nix had a very simple response when asked about the play. “Uh yeah. Um, dropped back, threw it to the other team,” the 24-year-old said matter-of-factly.

Although the start to Nix’s career has not gone as expected, with fans seemingly calling to mind more of his goofs than his good plays, the rookie has had memorable moments. Against the Las Vegas Raiders, Nix and star defensive end Maxx Crosby had a brief back and forth, with the veteran doing what he could to intimidate Nix.

Despite Crosby’s best efforts, Nix was able to lead the Broncos to a win, finishing the game completing 19-of-27 pass attempts for 206 yards with two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Raiders had to shuffle quarterbacks, benching Gardner Minshew in favor of Aidan O’Connell.

After the game, Crosby succinctly explained how he felt, knowing his team fell and that his trash talk didn’t work against the rookie. “I could have 10 sacks and we lose, I’m not going to be happy,” the Raiders star said. “It sucks.”

Nix went on to lead the Broncos to a convincing 33-10 victory after recovering well from his sloppy start to the game. Denver is now 4-3 this season, while New Orleans is 2-5.
