General Hospital star confirms they're leaving the show and teases a new role

Réal Andrews will no longer be gracing the screen on General Hospital.

The actor, who plays Marcus Taggert, announced the news on social media on October 14. In a Instagram video, Réal confirmed the news of his exit which fans had been wondering about for a while since his last appearance on the daytime drama in 2023. He also provided details on his exit to his fans and what's next for him.

He started off by acknowledging the fans' curiosity over his current status with General Hospital. Réal said, "I’ve been getting a lot of questions for over a year now. They’re probably not the answers that you want to hear, but it’s all great."

"So, my chapter with General Hospital is over. The writing has been on the wall for a long time... and I wanted to come here because you guys have been phenomenal, the best, amazing supporters," he continued.

He called his time on the show "an incredible journey" and went on to thank the show's executives, producers, writers, and other crew members. The 61-year-old actor mentioned how he knew fans are not going to be happy with where his character's storyline ended especially now that he's gone but he "appreciates" and is "grateful" for that.

He added that he wanted to "go out on top" which is how he felt the last scenes he shot embodied. He said that as an actor, he "couldn’t have asked for anything more." He said that is was a "blessing" to be on General Hospital.

Réal first played Marcus from 1996-2003 and then from 2020-2023. His last scene that aired in July 2023 was a memorable tearjerker as Marcus had a emotional breakdown realizing Trina Robinson ( Tabyana Ali ) was not his biological daughter.

Within the Instagram video, the soap star also teased a new project that he couldn't detail because of an NDA he signed.

"I got offered what is the biggest role in my life. It’s [with] the biggest and best network, the best director, producers, writers, in my opinion, in the industry," he said. "We’re in pre-production for it. I signed an NDA, so I’m not able to talk about it, but it’s huge."

He further said that how the project will blows fans' minds when he's able to disclose it. Réal called it the "biggest project" of his life and "the most important one." He concluded with: "And everything comes together, and happens for a reason, right? Everything I’ve done in my whole life was for this moment right here."
