A helicopter has crashed into a radio tower in Houston, Texas , leaving multiple people dead including a child who was on board.

The horror crash happened in the east part of the city in the area of Engelke Street and N Ennis Street. Officials confirmed that multiple people died onboard the helicopter, including a child, whose age has not been disclosed. There were no casualties on the ground.

The crash was captured on a terrifying video recorded on a phone before it was uploaded to X, formally known as Twitter.

The video shows the radio tower falling in a burst of orange as the helicopter hits the ground and creates a large cloud. Fire and debris fell from the parts of the tower that were still standing.

One person on X reportedly heard the crash as it happened. They wrote: "The noise was [loud] and quick. Heard it from my living room. I’m on the other side of river… crazy."

Others on the social media site shared videos of the police and fire department presence with people taking to the streets to see what the commotion is all about. The city of Houston's 911 Active Incident Dashboard showed that 10 units were sent to the scene.

Sylvia Garcia, a member of the US House of Representatives who represents the area, took to X to share that she was watching the situation unfold. "I am closely monitoring the helicopter crash situation in the East End tonight and I am in contact with local officials," she said, "I’m deeply grateful to the first responders for their swift action and am praying for all those involved."

The crash appeared to happen before 8 pm, with the first emergency call coming in at 7:54pm. Firefighters were said to have arrived on the scene shortly after around 8:06pm.

John Whitmire, the mayor of Houston said: "We are fortunate it wasn't worse." He added that the radio tower "is surrounded by residents and that’s where we were very fortunate that it didn’t topple in one direction or another."

"The fireball was pretty much isolated," he continued before adding that an investigation would take place over the next few days. Some of the residents in the area suffered power outages but other than that they were unaffected.

This incident comes after a plane seemingly burst into flames earlier this month. Frontier Airlines flight 1326 was flying from San Diego to Las Vegas and had a "hard landing."

After the landing at Harry Reid International Airport, the plane burst into flames with about 200 passengers still on board. Thankfully, no passengers or crewmembers were injured or killed.

Eyewitnesses claimed that flames and smoke came from the plane's undercarriage. An airport representative stated that the plane "experienced a hard landing where basically tires blew."

The FAA confirmed that emergency services at the airport put out a fire in the plane's right engine shortly after it landed.
