The feisty Tammy Slaton from '1000-lb Sisters' has captured hearts with her latest weight loss victory .
Since the show's premiere on TLC in 2020, the 38 year old's dramatic transformation has had viewers riveted.
Once confined to a wheelchair and weighing in at 725 pounds, Tammy took a decisive step towards change with bariatric surgery in July 2022, kickstarting her weight loss journey. However, she first had to overcome the hurdle of reducing her weight to 550 pounds, which led her to check into a food addiction rehab .
Despite a discouraging moment when she exited the facility at a heavier weight than when she entered, Tammy persevered and shattered her targets. By December 2023, she surprised everyone by announcing she had shed an incredible 440 pounds.
Now able to stand and walk independently, though still using an oxygen tube for support, her quest for health continues nearly a year later. In a teaser from the October 15 episode of the popular series, released by PEOPLE, we catch a glimpse of Tammy visiting the doctor with her sister and co-star Amy by her side.
"At my rock bottom, I was weighing about 725 pounds," she shared. "The last time I saw Dr. Smith was about nine months ago and I was around 420 pounds. He told me I had to lose 100 pounds before my next appointment. I'm extremely nervous."
The beloved TV star was utterly astonished when she stepped on the scales and saw she had reached 303.8 pounds, shattering her target weight. Elated, she exclaimed: "I surpassed Dr. Smith's goal, my goal, all the goals! ".
In a heartfelt video, Tammy described her weight loss journey as "unbelievable" and shared her newfound joys, stating, "Now that I've lost so much weight, I'm able to do things that I never would have been able to do. I think people do take the small things for granted. Being able to cross your legs and put your shoes on... I'm able to sit comfortably on the toilet, I've never been able to do that."
Her remarkable achievement has garnered tons of praise from the online community, with one admirer commenting, "You are awesome! Such determination! " Another added their voice, saying, "I'm so proud of her. She has done a phenomenal job," while another supporter expressed, "So proud of you Tammy. Live your life to the fullest. Wishing you all the best,".
Dr. Smith, in conversation with the media, wasn't surprised by Tammy's success, noting, "Tammy has consistently demonstrated her dedication to making sustainable lifestyle changes to maximise the benefits of her surgery," He further noted, "I've emphasised the importance of making small, daily adjustments to ensure not only her continued progress but also her long-term success. She's truly committed to her health journey."
Dr. Smith revealed that Tammy's subsequent step in her health journey will likely include skin removal surgery, generally recommended following consistent weight loss over three to six months. Yet, he acknowledged the possibility of advancing the surgery should Tammy suffer significant loose skin problems affecting her mobility or worsening other health conditions.
Following a detailed evaluation, he noted, "Given this," and affirmed, "it makes sense to consider surgery sooner rather than later, even though she will continue to lose weight in the future."
