It has officially been a year since Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom Friends , tragically died of a ketamine overdose in his Pacific Palisades home on October 28, 2023.

Friends and fans are paying tribute to the late actor online, including Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston , who played Rachel Green on the show. The two grew close after working together for a decade, and remained friends after the show ended until the day he died.

The loss has had a devastating impact on Aniston, who often supported Perry throughout his struggle with addiction over the years. In her tribute post, the 55-year-old actress shared a series of throwback snaps from her Friends days with Matthew and simply captioned the photo dump: "1 year" followed by a healing red heart and dove emoji.

In the nostalgic carousel, Jennifer included an adorable black-and-white picture of the pair goofing around on set, a snap of Matthew planting a kiss on her head inside of Central Perk, the gang sharing in a group hug behind the scenes, and lastly a radiant photo of the actor himself captured mid-laughter.

The post shared with Jennifer's 44 million followers was met with an outpouring of love from her fans as they all took a moment to remember the beloved actor. Under the series of snaps, one supporter commented: "Jen Ani, He became a beautiful angel and is watching over you! He loved you very much."

And another added: "This post is so emotional, he is up there watching over you. We know how much you loved each other and that will be eternal." While a third fan penned: "I miss him so much but I know that he is in the heart of every person I love and that comforts me a lot."

On November 15, 2023, just over two weeks from the day Matthew died, Jennifer shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. She wrote: "Oh boy this one has cut deep... Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before. We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep."

She continued in part: "We loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be. For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh. As he said himself, if he didn't hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die. His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard. In the last couple weeks, I’ve been poring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever."

sometimes it's all that's needed.... she said alot the days after he passed away and she probably didn't want rehash it again... the hole he left in the rest of his castmates is pretty big and I don't think they'll ever really get to fill that hole all the way back up ... there will be a scar but it won't be patched up
