    Big Sounds and Bigger Plans

The Jaguar Marching Band is ready to impress this year with a bigger and bolder presence.

Drum majors Rivers Lewis and Shannon Kille are thrilled to lead a 250-member band that’s gearing up for two exciting performances.

“We’ve got one show that’s Mardi Gras-themed with a special guest joining us on the field, and another show that’s all about boy bands,” Kille shared.

With these fun and energetic themes, the band is set to entertain the South Alabama community like never before.

    New Programs, New Opportunities

South Alabama isn’t just expanding its band; it’s also rolling out some exciting new academic programs.

Dr. Andi Kent, Executive Vice President and Provost, highlighted the university’s new aerospace engineering program.

“With the growth of the aerospace industry in Mobile, including Airbus, this program is a perfect fit for our students,” Dr. Kent said.

Additionally, the Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences is expanding, taking advantage of the university’s prime location near the Gulf of Mexico and the Mobile-Tensaw Delta.

These programs are set to offer students cutting-edge opportunities and prepare them for thriving careers in booming industries.

Kicking Off the School Year with Convocation

As the weekend’s move-in festivities wrap up, the excitement continues with the official start of the academic year.

Incoming freshmen will gather on Monday at the Mitchell Center for Convocation, where they’ll be welcomed into the Jaguar family and introduced to life at South Alabama.

A special musical guest will add to the celebration, making it a memorable start for the newest members of the university.

Classes begin on Tuesday, marking the beginning of what promises to be an incredible year filled with new experiences, learning, and growth.

    A Bright Year Ahead

With new programs, an expanded marching band, and a vibrant campus community, the University of South Alabama is set for a dynamic school year.

Students can look forward to exciting performances, innovative learning opportunities, and a supportive environment that encourages success both in and out of the classroom.

The energy on campus is just the beginning—there’s a lot to look forward to at South Alabama this year!
