Large Beehive Discovered in Mobile Church Bell Tower

Trinity Episcopal Church, one of Mobile’s oldest churches, recently discovered an unexpected guest—a massive beehive hiding up in its bell tower for almost ten years!

Can you imagine? For all this time, the bees were busy making honey, and it wasn’t until a few months ago that anyone realized how big the hive had grown.

With around 40,000 bees and 40 pounds of honey, it was a buzzing situation (pun intended).

Some choir members even got stung, but they kept on singing without missing a note!

    These Bees Weren’t All Bad

Even though the hive was causing some trouble, the bees were actually doing some good too.

Bryan Pearce, the Senior Warden of the church, explained that the bees were probably helping out in the church garden next door.

They were pollinating the altar flowers and even the fruits and veggies the church uses in its food ministry.

So while no one loves an unexpected sting, these bees were quietly doing their part to support the community.

    Why Safe Bee Removal Matters

Enter Brandon Hargraves, the local bee expert from B’s Bees.

He’s the guy who was called in to tackle the hive and move the bees safely.

Hargraves made it clear that simply killing the bees could cause bigger problems.

Once the bees are gone, the honey and wax left behind can melt, attracting pests like ants and roaches—not to mention the possibility of black mold forming.

    Nobody wants that!

Instead, Hargraves carefully removed the bees and the honeycomb, ensuring the church wouldn’t face any nasty surprises later.

He explained that safe removal isn’t just better for the bees, but also prevents a huge mess for the property owner.

What This Means for Mobile Locals

For Mobile residents, this story is a great reminder that bees are important and should be handled carefully.

While it’s tempting to get rid of a hive quickly, proper removal can prevent bigger issues down the road.

Plus, bees play a huge role in pollinating local plants, flowers, and gardens—even if they sometimes find inconvenient spots like a church bell tower!

With the hive safely relocated, the church is hive-free, but hopefully, the new location will help the bees continue their important work, just in a less stingy spot!
