City council races are set in Modesto, Ceres, Hughson and Waterford, but several other Stanislaus County locales have not yet closed candidate filing.

The deadline was 5 p.m. Friday if an incumbent is seeking a new term in the Nov. 5 election. If not, candidates have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

More details, based on city websites as of late Monday morning:

Modesto council: District 1 Councilwoman Rosa Escutia-Braaton is being challenged by former Councilman John Gunderson and transportation planner Joel Campos. District 3 Councilman Chris Ricci is running unopposed. District 6 Councilman David Wright is being challenged by Austin Grant, a member of the city’s Community Police Review Board.

Turlock council: District 2 incumbent Rebecka Monez is vying against Milton Trieweiler. District 4 incumbent Pam Franco is running for city treasurer, a mostly ceremonial role, so filing remains open for her council seat. Erika Phillips is the only candidate so far. Franco told the Turlock Journal that the new role would allow more time with her family.

Ceres mayor: Incumbent Mayor Javier Lopez is seeking reelection. He is challenged by District 2 Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra and by Gary Condit, grandson of the former congressman by that name. Vierra is in the middle of her council term.

Ceres council: Bret Silveira is seeking reelection in District 3 against Cerina Otero. Incumbent Daniel Martinez is unopposed in District 4.

Riverbank mayor: Incumbent Richard O’Brien faces Councilwoman Rachel Hernandez, who is not seeking re-election in District 2, and Solomon Kumar.

Riverbank council: Cynthia Fosi is the only candidate so far in District 2, which remains open for filing. District 4 incumbent Darlene Barber-Martinez is running against Stacy Call and Roxana Garcia.

Oakdale: Council incumbents Bob Amaral and Fred Smith are not seeking new terms, so filing remains open. The candidates so far are Justin Biedinger, Jarod Pitassi, Caitlyn Barreda and Jeff Kettering.

Waterford: Mayor Charlie Goeken is unopposed for a new term. The two council seats drew incumbents Jamie Hilton and Jill Kitchens and challenger Guadalupe Gutierrez.

Hughson: Incumbents Alan McFadon and Samuel Rush are running against Abel Morin, Susana Vasquez and Billy Gonzales for the two council seats.

Patterson: Mayor Michael Clauzel is unopposed for re-election. Incumbent Councilwoman Shivaugn Alves is not running in District A, so filing remains open. Gabriela Hernandez and Shawun Ruth Anderson are the candidates so far. District C incumbent Dominic Farinha faces Kendra Loraine Mora.

Newman: Mayor Casey Graham is unopposed for another term. The race for two council seats, one of them vacant, drew incumbent Laroy McDonald and newcomers Gisel Pimentel and Matthew Harden. Filing remains open for the council.
