Dozens of people were displaced by a fire at a mobile home park in Modesto on Monday afternoon, according to the Modesto Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the Sunrise Village Mobile Home & RV Park, located on the 400 block of South Seventh Street, at about 2:30 p.m. and found three mobile homes engulfed and a fourth catching fire. Over 50 firefighters eventually responded.

The fire destroyed three homes, damaged three others and burned one vehicle. Two residents and a firefighter were injured and taken to a local hospital.

The fire displaced 16 adults and 10 children, who were assisted by the American Red Cross.

The firefighter was described as doing “fine” by Battalion Chief Jim Black. No additional information was released regarding the two residents who were inured.

Modesto, Stanislaus Consolidated, Westport Fire District and Turlock firefighters assisted in putting out the fire, which took about 50 minutes, according to the MFD.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire, which had not been determined as of Tuesday morning.

    Second neighborhood fire

The Sunrise Village fire was the second major fire in the area in the past week.

On Friday, a commercial fire on the 600 block of Janopaul Lane in Modesto caused $1.2 million in damages and injured a firefighter. It’s about a half mile south of the mobile home park.

The fire consumed about 200,000 wooden pallets, multiple tractor trailers, several power poles and transformers, at least one recreational vehicle and a residential unit located on the pallet yard.

Details on the cause of the Janopaul fire had not been released as of Tuesday morning.
