Affected areas include the cities of Modesto, Stockton and Sacramento, as well as Chico, Fairfield, Grass Valley, Jackson, Marysville, Oroville, Paradise, Red Bluff, Redding, Suisun and Yuba City.
The weather service warned that “this level of heat could impact outdoor activities.”
“ Heat-related illnesses will be possible, especially for groups that are sensitive to heat,” the agency said via X.
Tuesday in Modesto was expected to be sunny and hot, with a high temperatures near 98 degrees and a low temperature around 70 degrees. Winds could reach 6 mph.
The heat starts ramping up Wednesday, which will be sunny and hot with a high near 102 and a low around 72.
Thursday will have a high near 103 and an overnight low around 74.
The weather service is forecasting a high near 102 on Friday with a low around 70.
Saturday will be sunny and hot with a high near 97 and a low around 66.
Sunday continues the slightly cooler weekend trend with a high near 94 and a low around 64.
The mercury will dip lower on Monday, which is expected to reach a high near 89.
How to stay safe during hot weather
The National Weather Service shared some tips for staying safe during hot weather.
They include:
Reduce time in the sun between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Stay in an air-conditioned room.
Check up on those more susceptible to heat impacts.
