Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported in a recent release that on Saturday, Sept. 7, shortly after noon, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office was contacted by school officials from the school. They had been alerted to a threat of gun violence planned against the school for Monday, Sept. 9 by a parent of one of their students. The threat had been disseminated via a group text message chat session involving students at the school.

Sheriff Deputies conducted an investigation and discovered the threat was made by a 15-year-old female from Temperance, Michigan. Contact was made with the juvenile suspect and her parents.

As a result of the investigation, the subject was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center and a small caliber bolt-action rifle was seized from the residence.

As a precaution, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office will provide additional staff during the school day on Monday, Sept. 9.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
