    Polls now open for Region football player of the first half

    Believe it or not, more than half of the high school football season has passed.

    Teams in Michigan completed Week 5 of the nine-week regular season last week.

    The first five weeks have produced many memorable performances in the Monroe County Region.

    As we get ready to head into the stretch run, The Monroe News is asking its readers to pick the best player of the first half of the season.

    Here is one nominee from each team.

    Polls will remain open until kickoff for Week 6 — 7 p.m. Friday.

    Who was the best player for the first half of the Monroe County Region football season?

    Luke Beaudrie, Jefferson : Already has topped 1,000 total yards with 594 rushing and 421 passing yards despite missing most of the season opener with an injury.

    Joey Brink, Dundee : Has run for 626 yards and 9 touchdowns on 106 carries and also has scored two TDs on pass receptions.

    Tanner Collett, Monroe : Leads the Trojans with 71 tackles, including 12.5 for loss and one sack.

    Mitchell Gomulinski, Summerfield : The leading tackler for the defense and has run for 666 yards on 94 carries and 8 touchdowns.

    Logan Goodin, Erie Mason : Rushed for 556 yards on 90 carries and has scored six touchdowns. Also leads the team in tackles.

    Drew Harris, SMCC : Rushed for 7 touchdowns and 496 yards on 64 attempts for an average of 7.75 yards per carry.

    Graham Junge, Flat Rock : Completed 47-of-86 passes for 865 yards and 15 touchdowns. Also has run for 147 yards and 3 TDs on 31 attempts and has one reception for 10 yards.

    Isaac Kemp, Airport : Has recorded 19.5 tackles, including one for loss, and broken up two passes and forced a fumble at linebacker. Also a standout on the offensive line.

    Joe Krolak, Gibraltar Carlson : Completed 44-of-62 passes for 669 yards and 6 touchdowns and has run for 406 yards and 9 TDs on 35 carries.

    Austin O’Dell, New Boston Huron : One of Huron’s top defenders also has rushed for 294 yards and 5 touchdowns.

    CJ Offerman, Milan : An anchor on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Big Reds.

    Drew Ruddy, Whiteford: Rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns, caught 8 passes for 103 yards and a TD, has 16 tackles and 8 assists on defense.

    Terry Smithson, Bedford : The leading tackler for the Mules with 40 (17 solos, 18 assists, 4 tackles for loss and one sack). He also has intercepted a pass, caused a fumble and has made valuable contributions to the offense as a fullback.

    Dean Thomas, Ida : Has carried 69 times for 553 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also has scored a 2-point conversion and caught one pass for 10 yards.
