MONORE COUNTY Connie Carroll, former executive director of United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties, was presented with a Star Award from the Court Appointed Special Advocates organization. CASA, a United Way agency, gave her the award during their annual fashion show on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

"I'm just honored," Carroll said. "I mean, any award is wonderful."

According to CASA director Jerica Sharp, the Star Award is given to someone who made a big impact on the community for the better. Having been on the CASA board, currently a member of the CAN of Monroe County, and assisting CASA recruit much-needed volunteer advocates, Carroll was selected for her participation in various non-profit organizations.

"She's involved with anything and everything in Monroe County and it helps our community tremendously, from children to homeless, with health checks and things like that," Sharp said.

"Monroe County, I think sometimes, does not realize how fortunate we are to have the services of all these non profits," Carroll added.
