Residents of a $60 million senior living center in the heart of one of the state's busiest retail hubs gathered Tuesday to introduce new leadership at the Montgomery complex.

The Crossings at EastChase , which has been open since November 2020 , offers three types of living options — independent living, assisted living and memory care — as well as a number of services and amenities to its 164 residents, including activity programming, chef-prepared dining, a billiards room, a full-size movie theater, craft and activity rooms, a fitness center, and more.

The senior living complex recently introduced new leadership when Will Devening started as the new executive director on July 1. Cindy Campbell, regional director of operations for Greenbrier Senior Living which oversees the management of The Crossings, said Tuesday's ceremony both functioned as a way to introduce Devening officially and to make the introduction of new leadership easier on the residents.

Devening said that the engagement he sees from the staff and the residents makes The Crossings unique.

"Everyone works beyond their job titles here," Devening said. "Everybody is completely dedicated. And it's really family, these people turn into your family."

Devening said that he has "never seen a community where the residents participate as much as they do here," which he credited to the activities department.

Some residents, like 93-year-old Elsie Wilson say they enjoy The Crossings because "it's Montgomery, and it's home." Wilson moved from a care facility in Birmingham to The Crossings at EastChase two years ago.

"I know my way. Of course, I don't have a car to go anywhere, but at least I know, and I have friends here. It was just coming home," Wilson said. "That's the reason I moved here."

Devening said he looks forward to introducing new activities for residents and enhancing the lives of the residents under his leadership.
