A Montgomery teen is one step closer to making his musical dreams happen live on NBC's "America's Got Talent."

When Reid Wilson, 14, returns to the show on Tuesday, Aug. 27, he has to wow not just the judges, but all of America with his soulful singing. Voting is in the hands of viewers for his shot at the semifinals, and Reid will be one of the top 44 acts featured in AGT's live shows. Locally, the episode begins at 7 p.m.

"Thank you guys so much for the support," Reid told the Advertiser in July, speaking to is hometown. "I can't wait for my next performance. Hopefully the results are just as good as my audition."

The son of Capt. Robert T. Wilson of Montgomery Fire Rescue and homeschool teacher mom Kelley Wilson, Reid auditioned for AGT with Lesley Gore's 1963 song "You Don't Own Me." The episode aired on July 9, and Reid's performance earned a Golden Buzzer from celebrity judge Howie Mandel. That pushed Reid forward to this part of the competition.

"I was bowled over because I was surprised," Mandel said on the show.

Fellow judge and executive producer Simon Cowell called Reid a "gutsy little kid."

When he spoke to the Advertiser after his audition episode aired, Reid said he'd love to bring some extra people on stage with him for his next AGT performance, perhaps even a choir. Will that happen? Everyone will have to tune in to find out.

This isn't his only connection to NBC singing competitions. Reid's older brother and Capitol Records artist Ryley Tate Wilson, 16, and close family friend D.Smooth of Montgomery were both finalists on season 23 of NBC's "The Voice." They both offered Reid help and advice as he prepared for the AGT audition.

According to his official AGT bio , "Reid believes winning would be life-changing, opening new opportunities such as attending culinary school, opening a restaurant and getting a swimming pool."
