Faulkner offers tuition discount to Montgomery Police Department employees and family

Faulkner University is waiving 60% of tuition costs for Montgomery Police Department employees.

MPD employees can also designate up to two friends or family receive a 50% tuition discount. Both MPD employees and their designees will also receive a 5% discount to Faulkner's law school.

“As a university, we want to impact access to justice and security for our community," Faulkner President Mitch Henry said.

The discount is already in effect, and Henry said he has had several students take advantage of it for the fall semester.

“We’re willing to make that kind of investment in our community," Henry said. "We believe in our community. We believe in our law enforcement."

The discount applies to most undergraduate and graduate programs. Only a few health science degrees are excluded, said Andre Mitchell, the criminal justice program director.

“It’s about as generous as we can be, and we’re thrilled to partner with MPD," Henry said.

Auburn University at Montgomery and Troy University pay 100% of tuition costs for sworn officers if they are enrolled in criminal justice programs or related courses of study, City Spokesman Miguel Diaz-Lucier said in an email.

“I just think it’s a great program highlighting the public-private partnerships we have going on in this city," Mayor Steven Reed said.
