    Prattville leader and city councilman Albert Striplin dies

    PRATTVILLE − Prattville City Councilman Albert Striplin died Tuesday. He was 70.

    The city confirmed his passing on its Facebook page. He had been dealing with health issues for several months. Striplin was serving his third full term on the council representing District 1, joining the board in 2011. He served as council president from 2016 to 2020.

    Mayor Bill Gillespie has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on city property until after his funeral. Final arrangements had not been announced by noon Tuesday.

    Striplin was a Prattville native and involved in the community. The family were active members of Prattville’s First Methodist Church. He served on the Historic Prattville Redevelopment Authority, the Prattville YMCA board of directors and was a longtime member of the Prattville Kiwanis Club. He as an active member of the Eagle Scouts Troop #25 as well as the Autauga County Master Gardeners.

    He served more than 35 years as director then president of the Bank of Prattville. The hometown bank was sold to Whitney Bank, based in New Orleans, in 2001. He also operated Key Finance for more than 30 years.

    Quiet and contemplative, Striplin chose his words carefully, particularly with matters pertaining to city business. He had a wry sense of humor. A Christmas tradition in Prattville was his “Musings” delivery, a list of pithy sayings and down-home humor he gave to friends. Each year brought a list of new offerings.

    Survivors include his wife, Theresa Clark Striplin, and their son Blake and his wife Ashley.

    The city council will determine how to fill his unexpired term, which is about a year long.
