Letter: We're much better off now than we were four years ago

I have heard claims that the two most important issues in the 2024 presidential election are illegal immigration and the economy, and that on both of those issues voters trust former President Trump more than Vice President Harris.

Trump might have more support regarding enforcing immigration laws, but he should not have more support because of the economy.

Four years ago, the United States was in a very sad state, paralyzed by COVID-19, which was killing massive numbers of people, overwhelming hospital facilities, and devastating the economy.  Businesses were closed, people were voluntarily staying home, and the country was facing one of the biggest challenges it ever faced.

I do not blame Trump for the pandemic that was crippling America four years ago, but I must say we are much better off today, economically, than we were four years ago, which was 2020.

People should remember those terrible times, and not pretend it was a golden age of prosperity..
