Colonial-Schuylkill football stat leaders: Southern Lehigh’s Steckert having breakout season

By Tom Housenick, The Morning Call,

Sean Steckert’s production as his first season as a varsity starter at Southern Lehigh goes on is going up. Way up. The junior running back rushed for 226 yards and three touchdowns and three passes for 93 yards and another score to help the Spartans win their third game in a row.

Steckert moved up from sixth to third among the area rushing leaders and third to first in scoring with 13 touchdowns (78 points), one more than Northwestern Lehigh’s Eli Zimmerman.

Southern Lehigh hosts Northwestern in the regular-season finale.

Other players on the move including Palmerton’s Jameson Trainer moving from 12th to ninth in rushing yards, Jim Thorpe’s Cole Lazorick jumping two spots to fifth in passing yards, Saucon Valley’s Jared Rohn leaping five spots to No. 5 in scoring, Jim Thorpe’s Justin Yescavage vaulting to No. 1 in receptions and Tamaqua’s Tyler Koch taking over the lead in tackles for loss with 11.

    Notes

    — Northwestern has allowed four touchdowns in five games, only one by the first-team defense. It came when the Tigers were up 30-0 at Blue Mountain.

    — Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Matt Bodnar continues to lead the state in passing yards (1,764) and completions (118).

    — Saucon Valley is generating more than turnovers per game and leads area Colonial-Schuylkill League teams with 17 total and plus-12 ratio.

    — Panthers senior Jack Robertson, who has three interceptions, set another school record in Week 4. His five catches in a Week 5 win over Wilson gives him 95 for his career. Ty Csencsits had the previous mark (89).

    — Catasauqua’s Aiden Reilly, who missed last Friday’s game against Notre Dame-GP, is 156 yards shy of 1,000 passing yards in his first varsity season. Southern Lehigh’s Colton Sams reached that mark last week. His 235 yards in a victory at Pottsville gave him 1,101 for the season.
