Former NFL player and podcaster Cam Newton, who has eight children with three different women, recently opened up about his desire for more children, despite his fear of marriage and divorce. During a conversation on his podcast Funky Friday with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, a psychologist and life coach, Newton shared his concerns, saying, “My desire to get married is lower than my fear of divorce.” While he expressed a willingness to have more children, he made it clear that marriage remains a daunting prospect for him.

When Dr. Bryant asked if Newton planned to have more children with different women, he responded, “I just want God to bring them. My point is this: my desire to get married is lower than my fear of divorce.” He also acknowledged that he is “just taking my time,” referring to Bryant’s earlier comments about his approach to relationships.

Dr. Bryant challenged Newton’s viewpoint, arguing that his decision to continue having children with multiple women, while avoiding marriage, creates broken homes. She stated, “You want to take your time in having a wife because of your own fears, but you will — and I say this with all respect and love — selfishly create broken families. Even if you’re in their lives and you’re a proactive father — and I believe you’re an amazing dad — but these families are still broken.”

She emphasized that every child deserves to have both parents in the home, and that Newton’s fear of commitment is leading to what she described as “low-functioning behavior.” She elaborated, “So, yeah, that is low-functioning behavior: to say that I’m going to build these houses and put these beautiful kids and beautiful women in them, but I’m not going to create a home, and then I’m going to wait until I dissipate my fear to find a wife…That’s completely unfair, and it’s selfish.”

Newton, who recently welcomed his eighth child with his current girlfriend, comedian Jasmin Brown, listened and nodded as Dr. Bryant expressed her concerns. Brown, who had previously criticized “baby momma culture,” faced backlash for having a child with Newton out of wedlock, considering his history of fathering children with multiple women.

Before his relationship with Brown, Newton was in a long-term relationship with Kia Proctor, with whom he has four children. He also has a child with Instagram model LaReina Shaw and considers her oldest son from a previous relationship as his own.

Despite the criticism and challenges presented by Dr. Bryant, Newton remains focused on his children and his fear of marriage, continuing to navigate his personal life according to his own beliefs and concerns.
