Jennifer Hudson Gushes Over Her Dreamy Career, Talks Pouring Into Herself, And More In ‘Essence’

Jennifer Hudson is living her best life. Twenty years after her American Idol debut, the EGOT winner has garnered many accomplishments. She has climbed the charts with her music, captivated audiences, and won esteem accolades with her acting, and she’s now basking in the sheer joy of having her own talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show . Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and talent. “God always has a little bit more for you than what you ask for. So, I stay in awe,” she tells Essence . “Every time I come out those double doors that say ‘Jennifer Hudson,’ I think: I s this real? Is this really happening? But that’s why I never sleep. Why sleep if you’re busy living your dream?”

Jennifer Hudson Talks Pouring Into Herself in Essence

Hudson’s contentment with her life is evident in her glowing skin and assured aura. The Chicago native covers Essence’s latest digital September cover in a black, fitted mock turtleneck dress that accentuates her curvy figure and adds to her boss-girl demeanor. Her svelte frame and flawless skin can be attributed to her self-care journey. The mother constantly checks in with herself and finds ways to uplift her being. “When I wake up in the morning, what’s going to make me smile today? What is it that my person needs today ,” she asks herself. “You know what I mean? Not boss lady, mama, and all the other titles in the world. The first check-in is, Okay, how am I feeling today? And then, what would be that one thing if I can’t do nothin’ else in this busy day , what is the one thing I can do that I can say I did for me ?”

Regarding her future, Hudson is dropping a holiday album and gearing up for a slew of notable guests set to grace her talk show. However, one of the key things she is working on is getting her son ready for the next stage in his life.  “Each phase of raising a kid is different from the last. So, it’s like, Okay, how do you need me now?” she said to Essence . “How do I parent you now with where you are right now? So, we’re finding a new norm, and I’m preparing him for what’s to come.”
