Fu-Gee-NAH! Pras Michél Sues Lauryn Hill For Fraud, Breach of Contract Over Failed Reunion Tour

Well, it looks like Pras Michél is once again clapping back at fellow Fugees member Lauryn Hill. This time, he’s suing for fraud and breach of contract over their failed reunion tour .

Variety reports that Michél filed his lawsuit on Tuesday (Oct. 1) in the Southern District of New York. The “Ghetto Superstar” rapper alleges that Hill grossly mismanaged the setup, budgeting, and marketing of the tour. He’s claiming that the ambitious trek was “actually a veiled and devious attempt to make a big score for herself ,” adding that she then took money from the tour guarantees.

The full list of claims filed against Hill includes fraud, fraud in the inducement, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, accounting, and refusal to permit a tour audit.

Michél claims that he left the tour empty-handed, as Hill allegedly inflated the budget with unnecessary expenses to the point that the tour seemed destined to lose money. Hill also ended the tour early, in November 2023, due to “serious vocal strain.”

Allegations Of Exploiting Michél’s Legal Issues

Michél claims that Lauryn was able to rope him into the tour because he needed extra money for his growing legal issues.

As you may know, Michél was convicted in April 2023 on 10 criminal counts in a major scheme to help China influence the U.S. government. Therefore, Michél counted on the tour money to help pay his legal fees.

However, the tour did little to help because Hill allegedly took 40% of the tour guarantees and net profits “off the top” for herself, in addition to an even share of the remaining 60% of the money. The rest of the 60% would go to Michél and fellow groupmate Wyclef Jean.

Tarnishing The Brand

Hill allegedly entered a new deal with Live Nation for an 18-show Fugees tour (scheduled to start back in August). Michél claims that Hill never disclosed the agreement to him. Ticket sales were dismal, leading the eventual cancelation of the tour.

Michél blames the low ticket sales on Hill because she “had taken far too long to close the deal with Live Nation [and] there was little or no marketing for the tour, and not enough time between the announcement and the first concert date to do sufficient advance sales to justify the tour.”

He also notes that Hill’s ongoing habit of showing up late to shows effectively “tarnished the Fugees brand.”

So far, no word from Hill’s camp on Michél’s lawsuit.
