Hurricane Milton is approaching Florida’s Gulf Coast, prompting the City of Naples to declare a local state of emergency and issue mandatory evacuation orders for residents in zones A and B.

City officials are urging residents to prepare their homes and families ahead of Milton’s potential Category 3 or 4 landfall in Central Florida. Businesses and residents are bracing for the hurricane’s impact, with preparations underway to protect properties and ensure safety.

The National Hurricane Center warns of “life-threatening” hazards including heavy rain, damaging winds, and a possible record storm surge.

The city has implemented a vehicle curfew and closed beach access points and parking lots, with city offices remaining closed through Thursday.

Residents are advised to take evacuation warnings seriously and stay informed about the storm’s progress.

Florida counties are opening emergency shelters to provide safe housing for those in the storm’s path. Residents should bring essential supplies like medications and food. Pet owners should also bring supplies for their animals, including crates.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is opening its campgrounds for Hurricane Milton evacuees.

According to a release, the speedway will collaborate with Henry County Emergency Management Agency to provide dry camping free of charge in its Legends Premium Campground for RVs and Legends Tent Campground for pop-up campers and tents.

Evacuees staying in these campgrounds will have complimentary access to a nearby shower house. A limited number of camping spaces with water, power and sewer hook-ups will also be available at $35 per night.
