It's not exactly a secret that Costco members get access to low-cost groceries and essential household products. That's the main reason why a lot of people are willing to pay for Costco access.

But the benefits of joining Costco extend well beyond saving money on food, tissues, and cleaning supplies. Here are some less obvious Costco perks you can enjoy as a member.

    1. You're not stuck with rotten fruits or vegetables

The tricky thing about produce is that it can look great the day you buy it, only to wilt or rot overnight. And even if you take your time examining your fruits and vegetables at the store, it's hard to know how long they'll last.

The nice thing about buying produce from Costco is that the warehouse club giant stands behind its products -- even those with a very limited shelf life. So if you buy a large batch of berries or greens at Costco and find that it goes bad ahead of its sell-by date, you can generally bring it back for a complete refund without a hassle. At a regular supermarket, you might be stuck with a bum supply.

    2. You get extra time to return electronics

Electronics tend to be pricey. So it's important to feel confident that the laptop or TV you've chosen truly meets your needs.

The good thing about buying electronics at Costco is that you get 90 days to make a decision. Many other retailers will only give you 30 days, which isn't always enough time to see if a given item works for you.

And if you decide to keep your electronics, you should know that Costco throws in a free second-year warranty at no extra cost. This, coupled with the generous return window, should give you plenty of peace of mind.

    3. You don't have to worry about paying for tire maintenance

At some point, you'll probably need to replace your vehicle's tires. Not only might you get a great deal on a new set at Costco, but you should know that tire purchases come with free lifetime maintenance.

In addition to an included five-year road hazard guarantee that gives you access to free repairs for flats or holes, your Costco tire purchase includes free rotations and pressure checks. And whether you buy your tires from Costco or not, you can use the store's free pumps to put air in your tires as needed.

    4. Your gasoline might not only cost you less, but lead to better vehicle performance

Costco is known to have some of the most competitively priced gasoline in town. But it's not just that you might pay less per gallon . Filling up at Costco could also help you get more mileage out of your tank.

Costco's gas is TOP TIER certified, which means it's designed to improve performance and help your vehicle run like new. Costco's gas is also formulated to clean your engine, which could lead to a longer lifespan for it.

These are only four of many benefits you might enjoy as a Costco member. So whether you've been shopping there for a while or are thinking of signing up, it pays to read up on the perks of joining. You may find that you're missing out by not having a membership or that you're not fully taking advantage of yours when you should be.
