Fifth grade students at Dobson Elementary School have been participating in D.A.R.E. classes this year led by Surry County Deputy Eric Latza. The goal of this program is to teach them appropriate decision-making skills, how to make necessary changes to stay on the right track, and how important it is to commit to a drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle.

Last month, the students took part in a D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony, where they were presented with their D.A.R.E. certificates and celebrated for this achievement.

The guest speaker at this school event was Judge Marion M. Boone, who spoke to the fifth graders about the importance of choosing the right path and knowing how to manage any obstacles that get in their way.

Students were also asked to write essays about D.A.R.E. and how the program has helped them. Madeline Branch, Gracie Key, and Maya Gonzalez Rangel had winning essays.
