This year the Meadows of Dan Folk Fair, in Meadows of Dan, Virginia, will be marking two milestones.

First, this will be the 20th year of the event, put on by the Meadows of Dan Community Association as a way, according to the group’s officials, to draw “people from all over to see the sights, visit the local shops, and to visit the festival and all the vendors that show up to display their products for sale.”

The second milestone is the 75th anniversary of the Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club, prompting the community association to get together with the Ruritans for a joint celebration.

At the folk festival, which is Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Ruritans will be holding a service — with the band Leftover Biscuits performing — and handing out some celebratory cake, at the community center from 2 to 4 p,m,

The day’s events begins at Maberry Church where Jeff Garrison and Mike Gillette will present a history of the church; followed by a presentation by folks from Villa Appalachia on wine.

The Sauerkraut Band will be at Primitive Coffee, the Country Boys will be performing at the community center, Villa Appalachia will have Jazz Sounds of the Triquetra, and the day will end with “an old fashioned singing at Concord Church, located on Concord Road in Meadows of Dan,: organizers said.

Additionally, local vendors will be on site selling items such as metal cut outs, crochet items, handmade soaps, lotions, and jewelry.

Local authors Tom Perry and Bonnie Turner will be on hand, and Stanburn Winery will be on site selling wine.

“We will have something fun for the kids provided by Outdoor Entertainment,” the event’s organizers said. “Come hungry because we will have food for sale by the Meadows of Dan Elementary School with their annual fish fry, Shans Concessions will be around with their food truck, we will also have LG Confections that have all your sweet needs that you may want, along with local baker Monica Hughes, owner of Olivia’s Goodies providing her handmade desserts.”

Additional activities will include sheep shearing, a fiber tent, and demonstrations on preserve making.

Parking will be at the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, where a prayer tent will be set up.
