Three area residents have been arrested and jailed on various drug charges, including trafficking methamphetamine.

Cory Dillon Hawks, 32, of 198 Cranberry Lane, Mount Airy; Holly Ann Morris, 47, of 137 Wilderness Trail, Lowgap; and William Kelly Wood, 45, of 113 Mustang Alley Trail, Dobson, were each apprehended and charged in the cases.

According to Surry County Sheriff Steve C. Hiatt, his office has been conducting a number of traffic stops over the past four weeks, several of which resulted in the charges against the three. He did not say if the three arrests were related to one another, or the dates of the actual arrests.

“These stops resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, and other illegal controlled substances,” the sheriff said. “The vehicle stops took place in the communities of Mount Airy and Dobson.”

Hawks was charged with three counts of trafficking methamphetamine, one count of no operator’s licenses, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed under a $300,000 secured bond, with a Dec. 11 court date.

Morris was charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, one count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed under a $100,000 secured bond with a Nov. 20 court date.

Wood was charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Wood was also wanted for felony probation violation in Carroll County, Virginia. He was placed under a $210,000 bond with a Dec. 2 court date.

“I am proud of the work of my team at the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, and their proactive approach to apprehending drug trafficking offenders in Surry County,” the sheriff said.

Do these have prior criminal records? If so, why aren’t they in prison?
