Mount Airy honored three tennis seniors ahead of an Oct. 1 match against Elkin: Greer Tidd, Hannah Burney and Carrie Marion.

The Granite Bears recognized the trio of seniors that have helped the program to one of the most successful four-year stretches in state history.

“I’m enormously proud of the contributions this group of seniors has provided to the success of the teams of the last four seasons,” said Mount Airy coach Luke Graham. “I think they’ve all improved as players, but also as leaders both by example with their play and maybe more importantly with their work ethic. They give our underclassmen direction and motivation of how to work toward your goals and how to try and get better as individuals and as teammates.

“I’d like to believe they were inspired by the classes that came before them, and my hope would be that they continue to do the same for the younger players on our team.”

Through the end of the regular season, Mount Airy tennis’ Class of 2025 has a four-year record of 84-3. The Bears won the 1A West Regional Championships and 1A State Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tuesday’s win also secured Mount Airy’s fourth-consecutive Northwest 1A Conference Championship.

All three seniors picked up at least one win in the 9-0 victory against Elkin. Marion won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1, and Tidd won No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. Marion and Tidd teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-0, while Burney teamed with Lynn Meadows to win the No. 3 doubles match 8-2.

Apart from the seniors, the following Bears won their matches against the Buckin’ Elks: Meadows in No. 2 singles, Audrey Brown in No. 3 singles, Emmie Brant in No. 5 singles, Bella Brown in No. 6 singles, and the team of Brant/Audrey Brown in No. 2 doubles.

Mount Airy ended the regular season 16-2 overall and will look to make another deep run in the dual team state playoffs.
