Students score victory in budget negotiations
Negotiation and compromise were the name of the game Tuesday evening in Dobson when the Surry County Board of Commissioners sat down for a final discussion on the county budget for fiscal year 2024-2025. Rat infestation leads to abatement order on Galax Trail
Six months have passed since members of county staff descended on a residence at 791 Galax Trail in Mount Airy to conduct a series of environmental samples. They were on site after repeated complaints had been made regarding a large number of animals being kept at the residence and the prevalence of vermin on the lot, resulting in the lot being declared a nuisance by county officials. The annual Field Day spectacle at Rockford Elementary School recently took place in the fields, a riot of color, laughter, and unbounded energy. The event included all kinds of races, and it was a celebration of athletics, teamwork, and joy. 3 shows set for Blackmon Amphitheatre this week
Three concerts are slated for the stage at the Blackmon Amphitheatre this week as part of the annual Surry Arts Council Summer Concert Series. Jim Quick & Coastline will open the week’s action, weaving together their own genre of music, when they take the stage on Thursday at 7:30 pm The Entertainers are scheduled to visit the Blackmon on Friday with their own show beginning at 7:30 pm On Saturday, The Magnificents Band will cap off the weekend with a show also scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Costs for the concerts are $17, or a concert series summer pass. Those attending the shows are encouraged to take a lounge chair or blanket. Coolers and outside drink are not permitted. Concessions will be on sale.
