Mountain Park Elementary names Volunteer of the Year award
Earlier this spring, Mountain Park Elementary School awarded the Volunteer of the Year award to Debbie Money. “Debbie is an important part of our school community,” officials there said. “Not only does she drive one of our buses, but she volunteers every day in our building. Pilot Mountain woman killed in Carroll County, Va. wreck
A Pilot Mountain woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning. The Virginia State Police said Martha D. Crocket, 40, of Pilot Mountain, was killed when her 2010 Hyundai Elantra left the road and crashed into a tree. According to the police. she was heading westbound on Route 97, also known as Pipers Gap Road, near Crooked Creek Road, when the vehicle crossed the centerline, went off the road to the left, and struck a tree. The wreck occurred at 7:40 a.m., according to the state police. “The driver of the Hyundai, Crocket, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt,” according to the Virginia State Police report. “The crash remains under investigation.”
Three concerts slated this week at Blackmon Amphitheatre
The Tonez kick off the week’s concerts on Thursday, with a show set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Envision is scheduled to be on stage on Friday in a 7:30 p.m. concert. On Saturday, Gary Lowder & Smokin’ Hot, will deliver a high-energy R&B performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Costs for the concerts are $17, or a concert series summer pass. Foothills North shuts out East Bend
The Foothills-North Junior Legion Team picked up its second win of the season by shutting out East Bend on June 3.
