Renovations complete at Health Department

SCC to hold old-time music camp
Surry Community College will be offeing its fifth annual Surry Old-Time Music Camp, from July 8 through July 12, on SCC’s campus in Dobson. Surry County has an intact music culture that is passed down from generation to generation. The Surry County Board of Commissioners removed two long-time members of the Northern Regional Board of Trustees — Chairman Bill Woltz and Vice Chair Monty Venable. New deal inked for city attorney
A new agreement has been reached for City Attorney Hugh Campbell to continue providing legal services to Mount Airy, and unlike what sometimes happens in a courtroom there were no objections. Greyhounds drop playoff game to Blue Devils
A rough night at the plate led to North Surry dropping its first-round playoff game against Maiden 6-0. The No. 19-seeded Blue Devils picked up two runs in the second inning, but outside of that neither team advanced past second base until the sixth inning. Funding grows for streetscape project
Grant funding continues to pour into Mount Airy for a “streetscape” project in the area of Franklin and Willow Streets downtown, which will include burying utility lines and other enhancements. Traphill woman charged with attempted murder
A 39-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stabbing a man on April 26. Selena Lovette was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder, misdemeanor domestic violence, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and misdemeanor child abuse. According to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest stems from a domestic dispute at 224 Lovette Lane in the Traphill Community. Deputies were sent there in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies learned the victim was en route to Hugh Chatham Hospital in a personal vehicle. After further investigation deputies learned this was a domestic situation and Lovette was charged and arrested. The individual who was stabbed has been identified as 42-year old Joel Spicer. Authorities said he was treated and released the same day.

DANBURY — The Northwest 1A Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship was held May 2 at North Stokes High School.
