Student awarded Yokley Scholarship
Senior Hannah Khuri, daughter of Rae and Michael Khuri, received the 2024 Charlotte Weatherly Yokley Scholarship during the May 3 Mount Airy High School awards program. Hannah is a member of the National Honor Society and is an Eagle Scout. She plans to attend UNC-Charlotte in the fall. The scholarship was presented by Pam Yokley, Sheldon Yokley Fowler and Allyson Yokley Ferguson.

• A Thurmond man was arrested Wednesday on two felony charges relating to his alleged passing of a counterfeit cashier’s check at State Employees Credit Union on South Franklin Road, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Dale Steven Wright, 40, of 255 Silver Creek Way, is accused of forgery and uttering a forged instrument. The crime, classified as the obtaining of property by false pretense was reported on April 22, but actually occurred last November, involving the loss of an undisclosed sum of cash. ...

Foundation provides $10k scholarships to area high school students
State Employee Credit Union Foundation, a charitable organization funded by the members of State Employees’ Credit Union, has awarded $10,000 four-year college scholarships to four local graduating high school seniors for study at one of the 16 universities that is part of the University of North Carolina System.
