    Congressman Bennie Thompson welcomes new staffer to Natchez district office

    NATCHEZ — United States Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) welcomes new Case Manager and Field Director, Xavier Hawkins to his Natchez Office which serves Adams, Amite, Franklin, and Wilkinson Counties.

    Xavier is a distinguished graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and a 2016 honors graduate of Cathedral High School. He holds a double major in Marketing and Political Science, and his academic journey is marked by numerous accolades. As an undergraduate, he was a Luckyday Scholar, a recipient of over twenty scholarships, awards and endowments within his college of business and liberal arts department Scholar, Kennard Scholar, Music and Vocal Performance Arts Scholar, and a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His commitment to leadership and excellence was further recognized when he became a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Emerging Scholar- Alumni. In this capacity, Hawkins interned with Congressman Steven Horsford of Nevada, the state’s first African American Congressman.

    Hawkins is no stranger to the world of politics and government service. During his high school and college years, he gained valuable experience as a two-year intern with the Adams County Chancery Clerk’s office, working under Brandi Lewis. Upon graduation, Hawkins joined the campaign of former Mississippi Congressman Mike Espy, who ran for U.S. Senate in 2020, where he served as the Assistant Digital Coordinator. His work in political strategy and digital correspondence extended to working with Stacey Abrams during her 2021 gubernatorial campaign.

    In addition to his political endeavors, Hawkins has also made significant contributions as a policy consultant with the Black Health Organization based in New York, New York where he focused on initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes in Black communities within the arenas of diabetes, breast cancer, mental health, HIV aids, prostate cancer and hypertension.

    Before accepting his current role with Congressman Thompson, Hawkins served as the Assistant Purchase Clerk for the Adams County Board of Supervisors. His deep roots in local government and his extensive experience in public service makes him an asset to Congressman Thompson’s team.

    Hawkins’s new role will see him working closely with constituents across Adams, Amite, Franklin, and Wilkinson counties, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met at the federal level. His commitment to public service and his track record of excellence positions him to make a significant impact in this new role.
