NATCHEZ — Downtown Natchez’s own pumpkin patch is officially opened for visitors for free photo ops or to purchase pumpkins to take home, said Downtown Natchez Alliance Director Kevin Miers.

Hundreds of pumpkins were delivered to the patch on Friday last week and unloaded by volunteers in preparation for the weekend opening.

The patch is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 100 S. Pearl St., outside of the Natchez Inc. building.

Whether you prefer perfectly round and smooth pumpkins or if odd warty gourds with unusual shapes and colors are more your style, the pumpkin patch has both.

“We have pumpkins that start at $1 up to $30, all colors, shapes and sizes,” Miers said. “The photo opportunities are everyone’s favorite thing. People love to come in and take pictures of their children and babies, boyfriends and girlfriends take couple photos and it’s free for all.”

The Judge George W. Armstrong Library has also sponsored weekly story times for area children, which have booked up fast, Miers said. The patch is still available to use for story time upon request, however.

Any group that wants to schedule a story time in the patch can contact DNA President Jo Ann Brumfield, joann@natchezdna.org.

Volunteers are also still needed to fill up available time slots in the pumpkin patch, Miers said.

“We opened the patch a whole week early this time so we have plenty of time slots where we could use volunteers,” he said.

Local merchants can make a game out of it to see who can sell the most pumpkins in their time slot. To volunteer, visit natchezdna.org or contact Miers at 601-392-6915 or email kevin@natchezdna.org for more information.
