City faces full agenda at its Tuesday meeting

NATCHEZ — County Judge Walt Brown plans to ask the City of Natchez to direct at least a portion of the money it will receive from the Mississippi Opioid Settlement funds toward his court and its programs.

Brown operates the county’s youth court and several drug intervention programs for youths and their families.

Brown asked the same of the Adams County Board of Supervisors at its meeting on Monday morning. The county is set to receive approximately $260,000 and the city is set to receive approximately $35,000.

Brown is on the agenda for the city’s meeting on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Council Chambers, 115 S. Pearl St., Natchez.

Also on the agenda, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen will hear a report on Merit Health Natchez and its future direction.

Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson said Kevin Samrow, chief executive officer at Merit Health Natchez, will provide an update on the hospital.

“It should be interesting and I hope it will be encouraging,” Gibson said.

Other agenda items from Tuesday’s meeting include:

James Johnston, the city’s community development director, will present quote bids for millwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment for the Duncan Park Golf Clubhouse renovation, which will be paid from the city’s general obligation bond from 2022.
Johnston will also present a change order for the Natchez Convention Center renovation, which is being paid for by the general obligation bond the city took out for convention center complex renovations.
Gregory Brooking, who manages the Duncan Park Golf Course and Clubhouse, will present lease information for golf carts.
Justin Dollar, public works director, will discuss an engineering contract with Waycaster Dungan for the Canal Street Bridge Replacement.
Dollar is requesting approval of a contract with Jordan Kaiser Sessions for inspection services on the Canal and Homochitto Street milling and overlay project.
Natchez Police Chief Caroline Green and Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington will update aldermen and the mayor on their respective departments.
Also, at the meeting, each alderman will provide a report about their wards.

City Attorney Jack Lazarus is expected to present to the aldermen a contract for its consideration with Michael Wilson for videography and website management.

Mayor Dan Gibson will also give updates on a variety of city items.
