Vaping has affected many in my life, and I’ve seen how it alters the lives of my peers and cuts off the path to a healthy future. I’ve seen them at school, seen how their behaviors change, their grades change and their spirit changes. What I haven’t seen — or what I can’t see — is the irreversible...

Three pointers for perennials
Gardening is an engaging hobby that can provide a host of benefits, some of which may surprise even the most devoted gardeners. For example, the Harvard Medical School notes that just 30 minutes of gardening burns 135 calories, making gardening a fun and simple way to incorporate more exercise into your daily routine. In addition, scientists have long proven that gardening releases the hormones serotonin and dopamine in the brain, each associated with improved mood. ...
Health care groups enter Oregon gun control case
Eight groups representing Oregon health care professionals have asked an appeals court to clear the way for a delayed gun-control measure, arguing it would cut down on the firearm-related deaths and injuries they see first-hand. The coalition of groups representing doctors, nurses, physician associates and others argued in a brief filed June 14 that Measure 114, a 2022 voter-approved measure since tied up in legal challenges, would reduce what they characterized as Oregon’s rising gun violence. ...
County’s hand ballot count demonstrates system’s accuracy
As pundits, partisan pols and those at the extreme ends of the political spectrum continue to question the accuracy of the nation’s voting systems, clerks in Oregon quietly took steps to counter that narrative this week with a test to demonstrate that all is well when it comes to tabulating votes in the state. The Yamhill County Clerk’s Office joined in the effort on June 17 when it conducted what is known as an administrative hand count. Required by the Secretary of State in the...

I started with the all-new Volvo EX30, which is due at dealers later this year and currently available for reservation. The Volvo is a four-door hatchback starting at about $35,000. It will have about 268 horsepower...
