Newberg Graphic's top prep sports moments of 2023-24
With summer in full swing, a bit of nostalgia has begun to set in for the 2023-24 preps season. I was incredibly excited, albeit a bit nervous, to begin this journey, but felt a deep sense of fulfillment throughout and upon reflecting on the year. ...

After taking sixth place at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in the Men’s eight competition and failing to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Portland local Pieter Quinton did some self reflection. Yes, being sixth in the world in anything is still quite the accomplishment, but the Grant High School alumnus and his seven fellow rowers still felt like they left something out on the Serbia water in September. ...

It all begins Thursday, July 18, on Netflix. “Cobra Kai,” the karate-centric dramedy series from creators Jon Hurwitz (“Obliterated”), Josh Heald (“Hot Tub Time Machine,” 2010) and Hayden Schlossberg (“Harold & Kumar Go to White...

5 takeaways: Portland region’s economic outlook for June
The Portland region’s most recent economic indicators, as studied by Jake Procino, workforce analyst and economics from the Oregon Employment Department, have been released. More than 1,000 Oregonians died of opioid poisoning in 2023, an increase from 280 in 2019, according to Oregon Health Authority data. ...

OPINION: Oregon's congressional delegation must not remain silent on Biden's candidacy
This isn’t the moment for timidity among Oregon’s Democratic Party leaders. When pressed by local media for their views on whether President Biden should still be at the top of their ticket, five of the six Democrats who represent Oregon in Congress have been either silent, supportive of the president, or deflective of the question. Oregon’s congressional delegation will not decide the president’s fate following his incoherent debate performance two...
