    Fall is here, start the season with these fun weekend events across Newport County

    Fall is officially here offering both of heading outdoors to enjoy the cool temperatures of the season or finding the comforts of being indoors.

    This weekend offers some seasonal favorites to kick off the season, along with opportunities to enjoy the day with family or watch some classic films.

    If you're not sure what to do check out these five fun events and get into the season.

    Silent Film fun

    He never smiled on camera, earning him the nickname of "the Great Stone Face."

    But Buster Keaton's comedies rocked Hollywood's silent era with laughter throughout the 1920s, and remain popular crowd-pleasers today.

    See for yourself with a screening of "Sherlock Jr." (1924) and "Our Hospitality" (1923), two of Keaton's landmark features, on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Jane Pickens Theatre Film and Event Center, 49 Touro St., Newport.

    The screening, the latest in the venue's silent film series, will feature live accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based composer who specializes in creating music for silent films.

    Cider Festival

    Apple cider lovers rejoice.

    Newport Vineyards is hosting a family-friendly Cider Festival on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

    Enjoy several hard ciders made in-house, and other seasonal treats including Newport Vineyards cider slushy, cider sangria and festival food items. There will be fun for the whole family with live music all day, a pie eating contest, a kids candy hunt, lawn games, free axe throwing for ages 12+ with Kingdom Axe RI and more!

    General Admission is $25, $20 for Cru Club .

    Kids 15 and under are free (no ticket required). For 16+ and non-tasting admission, $10 tickets can be purchased at the door.

    Ticket includes admission to all of the fun and your choice of 5 tastes from our cider, wine, or beer bars, plus a logo souvenir glass. Food and additional beverages available for purchase. Chef Andy Teixeira will be cooking over an open fire pit, roasting up turkey legs, brisket chili and more!

    Middletown Family Fun Day

    Get in on the fun with the 15th annual Middletown Family Day on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

    Hosted by the Middletown Prevention Coalition and Middletown Public Library, the festivities will be held at Second Beach, 315 Sachuest Point Road. The rain date is Sunday.

    Organizers said the free family event will feature everything from a bouncy house and rock climbing wall to face painting, touch-a truck, music and more.

    Saccucci Honda dealership and Friends of the Middletown Public Library are the title sponsors ofFamily Day.

    Newport Polo wraps up season

    Newport Polo wraps up the season on Saturday with the 28 Turkish Airlines Finals at 4 p.m.

    Recent years have closed the season with a battle of the sexes when Newport's top women face the men in the age-old gender showdown. The long-awaited Turkish Airlines Grand Prize Drawing will also be awarded with one lucky winner getting the trip of a lifetime along with a special Autumnal Wine & Cheese Tasting is planned in the TD Pavilion during the match.

    Oktoberfest

    The Fort Adams Trust and Ragged Island Brewing Co. host the second annual Newport Oktoberfest on Saturday, 2-5:30 p.m. Bavaria meets the Ocean State on the beautiful North lawn outside the walls of historic Fort Adams where attendees will be able to enjoy authentic German beer, wine, food, and live music.

    This 21+ event is an annual fundraising event for the Fort Adams Trust. Tickets are $25 (General Admission) and $20 (Designated Driver), At the Gate: $35 (General Admission) and $30 (Designated Driver.
