In the wake of flooding, residents need to know county and city office hours and locations have been affected.

Cocke County Sheriff’s OfficeThe Cocke County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced it will remain closed through the weekend and will return Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 a.m.

CCSO office staff have been working to help distribute food and other supplies to the community with tremendous support coming from everyone.

You can still call dispatch at (423) 623-3064 to get an officer dispatched to your complaint. If you have an emergency, dial 911.

Newport Police DepartmentThe Newport Police Department’s (NPD) office at 330 East Main Street is currently closed. The flooding led to damages that are currently being repaired. A temporary office has been established at the Newport Community Center.

The NPD will only be responding to emergency calls until further notice. If you have a motor vehicle accident without injury, swap information with the other driver and contact your insurance company.

Cocke County Clerk and Master’s OfficeAs a result of the recent flooding of the Pigeon River, the Clerk and Master’s Office has moved to 301 Cosby Highway, Newport — next to the Newport Post Office — effective immediately.

The office is temporarily closed but will re-open on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. The phone number to reach the office remains (423) 623-3321 and an additional number has been added, (423) 608-6582.
