(File photo) </figcaption></figure><p> MANISTEE COUNTY — The Manistee County Board of Commissioners have tentatively approved the fiscal year 2024-25 general fund budget, which is now open for public review and feedback. </p><p> The tentative budget proposes a general fund totaling $14,550,730. This marks an increase of $585,842 compared to the fiscal year 2023-24 budget allocations. </p><p> The vote had five commissioners in favor — Goodman, Gustad, Margaret Batzer, Jeff Dontz and Richard Schmidt — and one commissioner opposed: Nikki Koons. Commissioner Janice McCraner was absent for the vote held at the Aug. 20 board of commissioners meeting. </p><h2> Public review and hearing </h2><p> The Manistee County Board encourages the public to review the proposed budget, which is available at the Manistee County Clerk’s Office. </p><p> The budget was updated to address wage increases and the addition of deputies for the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, according to minutes from the Aug. 20 meeting. </p><p> The board may consider various amendments to the proposed budget after meetings with department supervisors, elected officials and funded agencies. </p><p> A public hearing on the budget is scheduled to take place during the board meeting on Sept. 20. After this meeting, a final budget will be adopted by resolution, which will include setting tax levies and establishing related budget policies and procedures.
